BRAVERY DANGER

Welcome to the personal site of Nick Jaquith • The Champagne of Dudes

Here are some things I made.

Project List.

What do you think?

Spirare Surfboards

Kevin Cunningham has been shaping boards for almost 8 years now. And he's getting good.

When I built his first site in 2007, he wasn't thinking about growth. He had a few boards to show, and his site suited him nicely. A lot has changed since then, so Kevin became the proud recipient of my first CMS.

Thanks to the CodeIgniter framework, I was able to deliver a slick repository for him to upload new boards, crop thumbnails, and keep his followers up to date.

MPI

2010

  • HTML5
  • CSS
  • MySQL
  • PHP
  • jQuery

Ingram Content Group had a problem — with hundreds of thousands of digital audiobook titles, their CMS was getting too big for it's britches.

My team came in and cleaned shop! With MPI, account managers and even publishers could quickly and easily edit, add, and delete their content.

This project gave me dozens of opportunities to use bleeding-edge technology, including: full HTML5 documents, cross-window scripting, spreadsheet upload and parse, drawers and accordions, infinite scroll pagination, inline content editing, and just about everything jQuery UI had to offer (and tons more).

Side note: we told Ingram that MPI is an acronym for "Multiple Pipeline Ingestion", but it really stands for "Magnum PI". There's even a nice Tom Sellek easter egg.

the Slicer

'08–'10

  • HTML5
  • CSS
  • JavaScript
  • MySQL
  • Local DB

The Slicer is a fully functional audiobook editing system, built with HTML5, JavaScript, and a heavy dose of the local storage API. Using a modified version of the Dragon transcription system, I utilized the output XML to create a succinct way for audio editors to create chapter breaks, raise & lower volume, speed up & slow down audio, and push to production systems. This all being achieved by a partnership between text and audio.

This project was my coup de grâce, but sadly, thanks to an iron-clad NDA, will never see the light of day.

Premier Chemicals approached me in late 2007 about a revamp of their fading web presence.

Working with department managers at Premier, I delivered complete web and print solutions for each business unit. Solutions included a content management system for chemical safety sheets, complete graphic overhauls, and lots and lots of tags...

Carina and Amanda take amazing pictures, but their blog wasn't what they had envisioned. I worked with them, and their partner Nadine, to launch a photography blog that would highlight their unique vision.

Corey wanted a minimalist site to compliment his minimalist paintings. I think we are both pleased with the results.
